Father, thank you for giving us Your word so we may learn what the meaning of life it, because we know it is found within your Holy Bible. Open our hearts and minds to allow us to learn and understand the message you are sending to us. Allow your Spirit to come into us and teach us as Jesus taught the disciples. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
This chapter of Deuteronomy is divided into two section; one section covers “Blessings for Obedience”, and “Curses for Disobedience”. It is well worth the read. Because if you are not experiencing blessings in your life, it may be that you have fallen short of living as God intended.
3“Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country. Regardless of where you are, if you follow God’s laws and commands, you will be blessed.
4“Blessed shall be the [a]fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks. If you obey God, you will be fertile and bear children, the food you grow will be plentiful, and your herds will be healthy and multiply.
5“Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. You will never go hungry.
6“Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out. You will be blessed as an infant, and blessed in death.
7“The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. Anyone who opposes you will be defeated, you will end up on top each and every time.
8“The Lord will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you. Your storehouses will never go empty, and everything you do in life will be successful.
9“The Lord will establish you as a holy people to Himself, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in His ways. 10Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they shall be afraid of you. As we continue to study the Bible, you will see that the children of Israel, while God’s chosen, often suffer defeat because they are not faithful to God. Of the many Kings that rules over Israel, and after it divided over Israel and over Judah, only a handful were faithful to God, and many started out good, but then fell to pride or some other sin. And as we can see today, while Israel is still God’s chosen, it’s enemies have slowly carved into the promised land. There was a promise to give the land to Israel “from river to river” (from the Nile to the Euphrates), and as we see today, the land is no where close to covering that area. In fact as I write this, Israel is at war with Palestine, which isn’t even a country, who is claiming the land to be theirs. That is not what the Bible says. And if Israel were more faithful to God, they likely would not be in this fight today. I am a firm supporter of Israel because that is what God wants, and I’m certainly not pointing them out, because every nation in our world today has become sinful and have fallen short of the Glory of God. Every nation needs to turn back to God and our lives would be much more peaceful and blessed.
I’ve heard many say that these rules and laws apply on to the Hebrews or Jews, but I tend to differ. When Jesus walked the earth, He instructed the disciples to minister to the Jews and the Gentiles alike. Whether or not we have Jewish heritage, whether or not we follow the Jewish faith, we are all spiritual Jews, because Christ was a Jew, and we are to follow Christ.
I can attest for a fact, that when I am closer to Christ, my life is blessed in more ways than I can count. But if I drift away, as I have many times, my life is more hectic and full of problems frequently.
Many Christians are waiting for Jesus return so we can accompany Him to Heaven, but if we obey God’s laws and commandments today, we can experience Heaven on Earth, as we experience the blessings of our Creator and Savior.
No one will ever be perfect because Jesus was the only man that is perfect. But we can at least strive for perfection. And while we are not saved by works, we can certainly be cursed for not abiding in the works outlined by God.
Please God, bless everyone who is reading this message. Draw them close to you so they are influenced more by you and the Meaning of Life, than they are influenced by the temptations of Satan and his angels.
Amen.
