Volume 11-47, 2 Kings 3

Just to keep track: Jehoshaphat is still King of Judah, and Jehoram, the son of Ahab, is ruling over Israel in his place.

You’ve just woken up and you’re sitting at the kitchen table, a hot cup of coffee in front of you, and you are opening the mornings newspaper. Wait, let me start over.

You’ve just woken up and you’re sitting at the kitchen table, a hot cup of coffee in front of you, and you open your newspaper app on your phone and begin scrolling through the news.

You come across a story about how, in the middle of the night, a home invasion took place, and when confronted with death, a man offers his son to the perpetrator in exchange for his own life. Would that bother you?

If it were me, I would be sickened, angry, wanting justice for the son, hoping the dad was prosecuted to the fullest of the law. And we read today much of the same thing that happened. Moab attacks Israel and when they start to lose, the King of Moab sacrifices his own son to “the gods” in hope they will save him from losing and/or being slaughtered. Do we have the same emotions when we read that as we did when we read the news article about the home invasion? If not, you aren’t truly studying the Bible, you’re simply reading it.

Yes, God asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, but that was merely a test of faith, God would never dream of asking someone to sacrifice their children on His behalf. In fact, when God saw the Abraham was going to do it, He stopped Abraham.

Now, I don’t believe God is so paranoid that He has to ask people to sacrifice their children to test their faith. While scripture doesn’t say, I’m sure Abraham did something to make God doubt his faith, kind of like when he lost trust in the Lord to give him an heir, so he used a surrogate mother to give him a child. God probably had to test Abrahams faith, and there is no other scripture in the Bible that indicates this was a regular practice of God.

In fact, child sacrifice was an abomination to God. And the pagan who worshipped other gods, regularly practiced child sacrifice, and that is one reason why God wanted the children of Israel to push them out of the promised land.

So don’t just read the Bible to check off the task of reading the Bible. Don’t just read the Bible so you have good Biblical knowledge. Instead, actual feel the Bible. Put yourself in the shoes of the Biblical characters. Imagine what they went through, imagine their joys and imagine their sorrows. And certainly imagine some of the atrocities that happened, like David and Bathsheba.

So, I am going to assume going forward that something like a man sacrificing his son to a home invader would be shocking and certainly not accepted in our society today. And if my assumption is correct, how do you feel about abortion?

Abortion is nothing more than sacrificing a child so you may live freely. A child would require you to financially sacrifice of yourself to care for it, and that would take away money to get the latest phone, or to get your nails painted or your eyebrows threaded. Or if you’re a male, a child would mean you would have to marry the mother or pay child support, cutting into your drinking or gambling funds.

Or a child would be a burden on our social life, we can’t go clubbing if we have a child, or we can’t attract men if we have a child. Or, I’ll have to quit college if I have a child, or a child will ruin my career.

And it’s not just women, often times the woman wants the child, it’s the child’s father that puts pressure on the woman to abort it.

“It’s not a baby, it’s a clump of cells”. “It’s my body, I can do what I want with it”. “It’s not killing a baby, it’s healthcare.” I don’t care how you talk about it or how you justify it, there is no reason to abort a baby other than selfish reasons. Like the father who offered up his son to the home invader to save his own life. Or the King of Moab who literally sacrificed his son in order to win the battle.

I’m not trying to make this political, I’m trying to appeal to human decency. And I’ll say again, the culprit is Satan himself. It is Satan that convinced men and women to abort their children, it was Satan that convinced the King of Moab to sacrifice his son.

“Please allow me to introduce myself, I’m a man of wealth and taste.
I’ve been around for a long, long year, stole many a man’s soul and faith. I was ’round when Jesus Christ, Had his moment…of pain. Made damn sure that Pilate Washed his hands and sealed his fate.
Pleased to meet you, Hope you guess my name. But what’s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game.
I stuck around St. Petersburg When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the Tzar and his ministers Anastasia screamed in vain.
I rode a tank Held a general’s rank, When the blitzkrieg raged
And the bodies stank.
I watched with glee While your kings and queens Fought for ten decades For the gods they made.
I shouted out, “Who killed the Kennedys?”, When after all
It was you and me.” – The Rolling Stones

I confess I am a fan of rock and roll music, but seldom is it for the lyrics but rather for the tune itself. I don’t know many lyrics, and when I think I do, I get them wrong. I do try to stay away from it because it may not be secular and may be Satan’s way of working into my head. However, the Rolling Stones wrote a song called “Sympathy for the Devil”, and while I don’t agree with all of the lyrics, many of them demonstrate that Satan has been around for a very, very long time causing havoc, and he is still around today causing havoc. And the more we recognize and acknowledge that, the better we will be able to deal with it.

As I said, Satan is behind abortion, he was behind the King of Moab. He is behind everything bad in this world, but he tries to either blame it on God, or blame God for not stopping it.

Open you’re eyes. Look around you. Recognize the battle between good and evil, God and Satan, that has went on since the Garden of Eden and in still going on today.

God bless us all. And rest assured, one day Jesus will return and save us from this.

Sorry for rambling. Hope this makes sense.
