Volume 11-51, 2 Kings 8-9

We will see the number “7” over and over in the Bible because it indicates perfection or completion. The 7th Day is the Sabbath, Pharoah of Egypt dreamt about 7 cows and 7 stalks of corn, we just read where Naaman was instructed to dip himself 7 times in the Jordan River to heal his leprosy, and many other instances. In fact, as the number “666” refers to Satan or the anti-Christ, some people have suggested that the number “777” refers to the Holy Triune, The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit, all perfect in their own ways. And that furthermore, the number “666” which is not holy, indicates the attempt to be perfect, but falls short.

Now we read about a plague that will last for seven years. Why would God cause a plague to fall on His children? He wouldn’t.

If you recall back in The Torah, God instructed His people not only to rest on the 7th Day of the Week and keep it Holy, you were supposed to let your land have a “sabbath” every 7 years. As we all know today, overplanting your fields rob them of vital nutrients that crops need to flourish, but instead of letting it rest every 7th year, everyone now adds artificial and man made fertilizers, nothing but chemicals, to the land so they can reap every year. Imagine how good their crop might be if they observed the 7th year Sabbath for their land.

So I don’t believe God caused any 7 year famine, but rather, when the people distanced themselves from God and failed to observe the 7th year sabbath for the land, perhaps their own actions resulted in the famine. And in virtually all cases, our merciful God always warned the people of what was to come. He warns us today of the consequences of our actions, he doesn’t stop us or punish us, He simply warns us what will happen when we separate ourselves from Him. The natural design law is we lose that protection from God.

And as we read on, we see where the kings of both Judah and Israel pass on and are followed by their sons. Their accounts are very brief, therefore they must not have done anything too awfully bad, nor did they do anything too awfully good.

Then we see the prophesy about Jezebel come true, as it was said that the dogs would eat her. Jehu, the King of Israel at the time, entered her city, and in an attempt to befriend him, she adorned herself with clothing and makeup. But that didn’t do any good. Jehu ordered her thrown down from an upper floor window, and her servants followed Jehu’s orders, throwing her down, the fall killing her.

But when they went to bury her, all they found was her skull, her feet, and the palms of her hands; the dogs indeed ate her.

So if there is a prophesy about you, you better hope it is a good one. Love your God, truly love Him, and obey Him out of love, not fear, and refrain from wickedness so the dogs don’t eat you.
