Volume 11-52, 2 Kings 10-11

My, what violent times those were. Ahab’s 70 sons slaughtered, Ahaziah’s brothers all killed. And yet, we are abhored when our country decides to stop a country that is likely the number one killer of Christians and is working on nuclear weapons to kill even more worldwide. I know, there’s times I see the crime and violence in our world and I am depressed about it, but after you read the Bible, you realize that the times we live in now aren’t so bad. Of course, the Bible doesn’t describe how the people of Israel felts about the 70 sons being beheaded, their heads delivered in baskets; they may have been extremely distraught as well.

We should thank God everyday that we don’t live in times like those. But most importantly, we should recognize why the times we live in are the way they are.

Why are our children growing up in broken families? Why are so many children being raised without a father? Why are so many children being killed in the womb?

Why is there so much murder and rape? I remember as a child, I would visit my sister in a nearby “big city” where she resided. I wasn’t more than 7 or 8 years old, and she would make a grocery list, give me money, and I would walk nearly a mile to the local market and back, getting supplies for lunch. The city might have had two homicides a month. Today, you open the news and there are shootings almost on a daily basis.

If you want to look at our drug problem, just search YouTube for “Kensington, Philadelpia”, and you’ll see just how bad our nation is, and it is the same across the nation, in LA, Portland, Seattle, pretty much everywhere.

Why is all of this happening? Because we’ve turned away from God. The same serpent that tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden is still at work, tempting everyone to lose faith in God, to lose their belief in God, to value one’s self and one’s selfish pleasures over serving God. We have a drug crisis in our nation, we have a family crisis, and a crisis for a complete disregard for our Creator.

The answer is to turn back to God. But I doubt we will see that happening. People barely want to give of themselves for a spouse or a child, let alone give their lives to God.

So, we have to do the best we can. We have to keep the faith and we have to keep sharing the faith. Spend more time studying the Bible and less time watching television. More time worshiping God and less time worshiping athletes and entertainers.

I’ve heard that Jesus is coming back soon all of my life. Even as a child, my church was giving hope that the Second Coming was near. Personally, and this is just my opinion, personally I believe that God knows who the last person is that will become a Christian, and as soon as that happens, He will send Jesus to rescue us. The Bible says that all people will know about Jesus before He returns, and with satellites and the internet, the message of Jesus is spreading around the world. Even the most remote areas of South America where some very primitive tribes still live without contact from the outside world, missionaries are reaching out to them.

The time is near.
