David, in his Psalms, propheied thinks that only made sense if you were well versed on the life of Christ. He talked about being given gall to drink and that clothes would divided by lot. What David said is almost word for word exactly how the Apostles recorded the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. And it is sad prophesy because we all know the torture and humiliation Jesus had to endure for us.
But now, we have a wonderful prophecy!
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. Curds and honey He shall eat, that He may know to refuse the evil and choose the good. For before the Child shall know to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land that you dread will be forsaken by both her kings.” – Verses 14-16.
What a wonderful prophesy! What a wonderful promise!
All along we read about the punishments God is going send to the wicked, when actually He was simply warning them about the penalties of sin and the consequences of separating themselves from God. The commandments are thought of as “laws”, they’re referred to as “laws” by pretty much every author of the Bible. But I don’t view them as laws, or commandments. I view them as rules to live by in order to have peaceful lives.
The first four commandments are to ensure we have good relationships with God, the last six are to ensure we have good relationships with each other. God isn’t “laying down the law”, He’s saying if you want to have joyous, peaceful, and prosperous lives, do these things. And after watching atheists, who don’t believe in God admit these are “moral” laws they live by, morals they have inherited by nature, it goes to prove that most people know you shouldn’t murder. Whether or not God tells us it is wrong, we know it is wrong simply because that is how we are programmed.
God said, “Let Us make man in Our image and likeness.” Most people perceive that as physical looks, and certain the “likeness” part of this verse confirms that, but what about “image”. Wouldn’t it be redundant to say “image and likeness”? That is why I believe that when God created Adam and Eve, He did so not just in looks, but in character. I believe Adam and Eve were just as perfect as God, not having the same powers as God, but having the same loving, merciful and kind characteristics. And just like I believe God is bathed in light, so were Adam and Eve, that is, until they sinned and after the light disappeared, they found themselves naked.
The moral laws were programmed into our psyche. How else would Cain have known it was wrong to murder his own brother, unless God spoke to them and gave them the law verbally. But sin started to lower those moral compasses and man began to sin greater and greater with each passing day.
So God wrote those moral rules on stone so we wouldn’t forget. And remember what was said…”put these laws on your front gate and over your doorway”. God didn’t want us to forget how to properly and with kindness, live in peace with Him and each other. And that still didn’t work.
Around ever corner, the children of Israel have failed to remember the law. They no longer talk about it as God has prescribed, “talk about them in the morning, teach them to your children, talk about them at night, talk about them throughout the day” (paraphrasing of course).
So what does God do? He becomes angry with these disobedient children and begins to punish them severely. Nope, wrong. God doesn’t punish anyone, He warns us of the consequences of separating ourselves from His love. So God send prophets to issue these warnings, and what do the people do, they kill the prophets because they disagree with them. They don’t want to live by morals, they want to be free to live as they please, because Satan told them that was an option, and because God gives free choice, it truly is an option.
The consequences of them separating themselves from God has caused war after war after war, invasion after invasion, killed in battle, possessions stolen, and eventually, they will be taken captive once again and be removed from their homes for 70 years. And God, being able to see into the future, know that won’t work either, and He knows that He Himself is going to have to come to earth and teach us in person.
This wonderful prophesy in this chapter of Isaiah is spot on.
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign”. The Lord Himself will pay a visit.
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son.” Mary was a virgin, having become impregnated by Immaculate Conception. Notice in the NKJV how the word “Son” is capitalized, meaning it is Holy, and capitalized pronounced mean it is either referring to God the Father, Jesus the Son, or the Holy Spirit.
“And shall call His name Immanuel. Curds and honey He shall eat, that He may know to refuse the evil and choose the good. For before the Child shall know to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land that you dread will be forsaken by both her kings.”
And that is why the people of Israel were waiting anxiously for their Messiah, even though the words of the Old Testament were misconceived and misinterpreted.
While Jesus walked on this earth, teaching us Himself how to live in peace and joy, He knew we were a “stiffnecked” people, and that nothing was going to work to get us to follow these moral laws. He knew that eventually He was going to have to destroy the earth and start over, but He also knew there would be some good people that didn’t deserve to perish. Perhaps He was remembering the pleas of Abraham? And He will send His Son to earth once again, this time to rescue and resurrect the righteous, and take them to Heaven for 1,000 years while the New Jerusalem is built.
I’m guessing, the saved will build it. We know God could just speak it into existence in one day, so why else would it take 1,000 years (or maybe 1,000 days) to build it other than we are going to be the craftsmen that put it all together. And when that is done, the earth will be new again. After having been burned and cleanse by the burning Glory of God, we will start over with a new Garden, bathed in the light of God, and living directly with Him.
Happy Sabbath!
