We now skip over some chapters in the Book of Isaiah, but not to fear, we will return to them in due time. Apparently not even the chapters of Isaiah were compiled in chronological order. And that brings up another question I had not thought of before; I assume each chapter of the book was on one scroll, so who decided which order the scrolls should be compiled?
Once again, we find a very poetic writing of Isaiah, so poetic that much of it is over my limited brain power. I should have studied English harder when I was in school (LOL! “Harder”).
Again, I do not know if Isaiah is talking about the Lord coming to save the children of Israel from Assyria, or maybe Babylon, or perhaps it is prophesy about the coming of Jesus. Regardless, Isaiah describes just how great God is, how perfect. How devoid of flaw.
God can work any wonder; raising and lowering mountains, straightening the crooked, causing great wind to blow with just His breath, knowing the names of each of His children, and I could go on. Most of the time we get so caught up in ourselves, trying to figure out how we can guarantee our own salvation, that we forget about the character and Divine powers that He possesses.
Remember, He created the earth with just His voice; how powerful is that? “Let there be light, and there was light.” It makes me wonder just how much power we might have ourselves if we get close to God. Jesus didn’t give Peter the power to resurrect, He instructed Peter to have faith that he had the power to resurrect. Is it possible that if we strengthen our faith, would we have the power to resurrect? And is it even possible for us to have such faith? Peter spoke with Jesus face-to-face, he traveled with Jesus and was Jesus’ pupil, he dined with Jesus. And Peter had the power to walk on water, that is until he took his eyes off of Jesus. Just that one fleeting moment where Peter thought of himself rather than his Savior, and he sank like a rock. Imagine what faith it would take to walk on water or to raise the dead. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have such faith?
And I’m not sure it is attainable without having to rely on something earthly, which might take you to the edge of spiritualism or calling on powers other than God to achieve your desire. I know my faith isn’t strong enough, and if Jesus walked the earth today, He would certainly say to me, “Oh ye of little faith!”
But God has those powers naturally, and that is what is so awesome about Him that we don’t stop and think about. He can make anything happen, and just like when He answered Hezekiah’s prayer to have his life extended, almost immediately answering, if we get close enough to God, He can answer our prayers to.
What an awesome God we have! He is so awesome that our mortal brains cannot fathom how great He is.
“Father…draw me close. Protect me from the temptations of the world, of Satan. Help me learn more about your awesome powers, help me understand so my faith can increase to the point I can move mountains. In Jesus’ name…Amen.”
