#400: 2 Kings 18, Isaiah 36, 2 Chronicles 32

If what you read in 2 Kings Chapter 18 sounds familiar, it is. Obviously the timeline list I’m going by isn’t perfect, and to be honest, it would be extremely difficult to put the books and chapters and even some passages in exact order of the time in which they occurred.

And the reason it sounds familiar is because we read about it a long ways back in 2nd Chronicles Chapter 31. Because Isaiah is such a long book, it’s been a minute since we were back there.

And pretty much all three chapters we’re studying today are all records of the same events, just from different perspectives; one from the author of the Book of Kings, one from the author of the Book of Chronicles, and the other from Isaiah. And this is further proof that these events are authentic because the same story is being recounted by different people.

When we get into the New Testament, you’ll see just how close the accounts of Matthew, Mark, and Luke are very similar.

And in cases like this, it never hurts to go back and refresh yourself with who Hezekiah and Sennacherib are and what they did. Even though this is my sixth read through the Bible, I still have to go back at times and reread some of the sections to get my bearings straight.

In this case, remember that Hezekiah was one of the good kings. Unlike most of the others, he tore down the altars previous kings had erected to honor other gods, false gods, idols, which is one of the gravest sins there are. In the Ten Commandments, the first four are rules on how we treat God, the last six apply to how we treat each other. And the first two commandments pertain to worshiping and idolizing other gods.

I know there are many different religions other than Christian that have their own gods and their own messiah. But the God, we as Christians worship, is the One and Only true God because He is the creator. He built all of this. And trust me when I say, you can worship Baal, you can worship the sun, you can worship Apollo, you can worship a celebrity, but none of those, or any other gods, love you unconditionally, can answer your prayers and provide for you, and can promise you eternal life.

Our God, the God of Abraham, is the ONLY God to ever exist. Praise Him!
