THE REAL MEANING OF LIFE

Bible Study with John The Imperfect Christian

Father, I pray for the person reading this, that you send Your Spirit into them to teach them and show them the truth. Please let them declutter their minds of past instruction, and seek the truth for themselves. Protect them from the distractions of Satan, as we know he will try to draw them away from Your truth. Amen.

#479: Esther (The Rest)

I know this sounds bad, but there’s not too much that has been impressed on me about the Book of Esther. It is an extremely interesting story, and an extremely important story, but for the most part, it is an easy read for pretty much anybody.

And as I said at the start, the story of Esther is demonstrative of God’s love and His Will that will be done. Just like Joseph, his brothers jealous of him that they plotted to kill him, but ended up selling him into slavery to the Egyptians.

Unless you had the faith of David going up against Goliath, you can see where Joseph might have been very down about his life; “why has my life gotten so bad?” But it was all in God’s perfect plan. God knew that there would be a famine and that His Chosen people would need food from Egypt. So He placed Joseph there on purpose to care for Jacob and his family.

The same holds true for Esther. God knew there would be a plot against the Jews, an attempt to exterminate them. So He placed Esther right in the King’s castle so she would have favor with him when the time came. And the Spirit had to be working in Mordecai or he wouldn’t have been in place to thwart the assassination attempt on the king, which gain him the king’s favor, nor would he have been able to get information on the inside to Esther, who wasn’t aware of the plan to kill the Jews.

Isn’t God wonderful? You may be in a situation where your life is not as good as you wish, faced with troubles, seemingly no hope of things getting better, then suddenly you realized that God put you there for a purposes.

Here’s a testimony for you. My wife had children from a previous marriage when we got together. So we never had that “just the two of us moment” that I yearned for. But then my wife got the “empty nest” virus, and seeing our last child nearing adulthood, she decided she wanted to be a foster parent. She promised me it would only be until our last one graduated High School, then we would quit, and get that love affair that was sacrificed for familyhood.

But she didn’t keep her promised. Our youngest graduated, and we continued to foster children.

Now, I never wanted to be a medic. My dream was to be a fireman, but because my hometown fire department was a dual department, both fire and EMS, one of the job requirements was that I became an EMT.

I didn’t like it. I didn’t have the confidence I needed to treat the ill and injured. I was too worried that I would do something wrong and end someone’s life with my mistake. But, I managed.

After twenty some foster children, my wife decided to care for a young girl, mentally disabled, multiple seizure disorders, and a Type 1 diabetic. And we ended up adopting her.

While I was obviously the father, my wife was a stay-at-home mom and the primary caregiver of the girl while I worked. Her condition was extremely fragile, her diabetes extremely severe. In fact her pediatrician, who specialized in diabetes, told my wife that the little girl likely wouldn’t live to see the age of 20.

Long story short, my wife passed six years ago, leaving me the primary caregiver. People tell me that it was a good thing I was an EMT so I was cut our and prepared to care for her. But that is furthest from the truth.

I don’t have a clue what I am doing. I’m winging it, flying by the seat of my pants. It’s always a guess at how much insulin to inject into her, always a guess at how much food to feed her so she doesn’t spike. But she is still alive, and she will turn 32 years old in December.

Here’s the testimony. When people tell me what I wonderful job I am doing with her, I give all the credit to God. As I said, I don’t have a clue what I’m doing, it is God that is caring for and keeping that not-so-little anymore girl alive. But he is using me.

I never got that “just the two of us” time with my wife. And there were times when I was sullen, knowing that i would likely never get that time. But despite my emotions, I now know that God put me in this place to be His hands in caring for that little girl.

That is how God works.

And the fact is that I love that girl with all my heart; to me, she is my daughter even though not biological. And now that my wife has passed, I fully have the opportunity to throw in the towel, pass her care off to someone else, and live my retirement days in a life of leisure. But I couldn’t bear to pack her bags and send her out the door, and that is not what God wants either.

Whether you’re a Joseph, a Noah, a David, an Isaiah, or an Esther, find happiness even in your darkest times, because God loves you, and He trusts you enough to put you in a certain position, knowing that with Him and thru Him, you can do the job.

God bless.

P.S. I’m starting to get excited because we are nearing the end of the Old Testament. The OT used to be my favorite because of the historical aspect of things, learning about Biblical history and how we ended up here. But I find myself getting really excited to read about the life of Jesus now, and to study and learn from His words!
