THE REAL MEANING OF LIFE

Bible Study with John The Imperfect Christian

Father, I pray for the person reading this, that you send Your Spirit into them to teach them and show them the truth. Please let them declutter their minds of past instruction, and seek the truth for themselves. Protect them from the distractions of Satan, as we know he will try to draw them away from Your truth. Amen.

I was never into history until I read the Bible, and now I thoroughly enjoy reading the history of Biblical times. It is accurate, it is authentic, it is World History, and it is our history.

Moses has died and has passed the torch, so to speak, to Joshua, the son of Nun. Notice how many Biblical charaters are listed as “X, son of XX”, and that is because they did not use surnames back then. You were know by your father’s name or by the name of the tribe you came from, such as “Saul, the Benjaminite”. And it is interesting the Jesus’ name was “Joshua” (Yeshua); Jesus’ is the English translation for Joshua or Yeshua. So it is no doubt that Joshua, the son of Nun, was an upright and righteous man. And once again, we know Joshua sinned, because everyone sins, but none of Joshua’s sins are identified in the Bible, so they were obviously not that great.

God talks to Joshua, and tells him that he will be the one to lead the children of Israel over the Jordan River and into the Promised Land. And here are some very important verses.

Verse 5, “…so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.” That was God’s message to Joshua, but it is still a valid message to us as well, he will never leave us or forsake us. He is always there, even if we turn away from Him, we can always turn back to Him.

Verse 7, 7Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you…” If this is the first post of my blog you’ve read, it is important to know that Christians follow Christ, that Christ was a Jew, that Christ followed Mosaic Law, and we are to follow Him, we must also follow Mosaic Law. God is telling Joshua not to worry, to be strong and courageous, to follow Mosaic Law, and that God will always be with him. The same promise applies to us as well.

So the children of Israel were camped along the Jordan River, just across from Jericho, and Joshua gave the command to get ready as they would be crossing over within three days.
